A day at school
The shape of a day
The rhythm is the same in every grade, so children know what comes next.
- 7:45 a.m.
Step 1: Doors open
A teacher greets each child at the door, and early arrivals go to the library corner.
- 8:00 a.m.
Step 2: Opening prayer and song
The whole school gathers in the fellowship hall, and the prayer is said together.
- 8:30 a.m.
Step 3: Chapel, singing or reading buddies
Chapel on Monday, a singing hour on Wednesday, and older children reading to younger ones on Friday.
- 9:15 a.m.
Step 4: Bible and reading
In each classroom, with the class's own teacher.
- 10:30 a.m.
Step 5: Math
Number facts first, then problems worked at the board and on paper.
- 11:30 a.m.
Step 6: Recess and lunch
Families send lunch. Children go out in all but the hottest and wettest weather.
- 12:30 p.m.
Step 7: Science, history, art or music
A different one each afternoon, and a rest after lunch for the youngest class.
- 2:45 p.m.
Step 8: Closing prayer and dismissal
A teacher walks each child to the right car at 3:00 p.m. After care runs until 5:30 p.m.
