The subjects

What a week holds

Each class has its own teacher, who teaches most of the week and shows families the work at the visit.

  • Bible and prayer

A lesson each day in the classroom, told as a story in the early grades and read and talked over in the later ones.

  • Reading and writing

Letters and sounds in kindergarten, reading groups after that, and by grade 6 a paragraph written and read aloud each week.

  • Math

Number facts said aloud, then problems worked at the board, and pre-algebra in the middle grades.

  • Science and nature

A seed table, a weather chart and a science display each spring for families to walk through.

  • History and geography

Stories of people and places, a big map on the floor and a long timeline that grows through the grades.

  • Music and art

Hymns and rounds on Wednesdays, a choir for the older grades and drawing from objects on the table.
